Frequently Asked Questions
What should I expect on my first visit?
On your first visit, the therapist will complete a thorough evaluation (in a private treatment room with clean linens) and provide education on the source of your problem, how it occurred, how to fix it, and what you can do to prevent it next time.
How long will my appointments last and will I see a different therapist each visit?
Your appointments will typically last about an hour. Your therapist will reassess you at each visit to optimize care. Your therapy sessions will be scheduled with the same therapist each visit -one who knows you well and will be most effective in providing your care.
What should I wear when I come to therapy?
We ask that you wear or bring with you a loose-fitting shirt, a pair of athletic shorts or pants, and athletic shoes for your therapy session.
Can I come to WCPTA without a physician's referral?
Yes! In North Carolina, "direct access" allows you to refer yourself for physical therapy. However, in certain situations (i.e. motor vehicle accident) we will require you to see a physician prior to starting treatment to ensure your safety. Please click here to read more about direct access on the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) website.
What if my insurance requires a physician's referral for coverage of physical therapy services?
Some insurance companies require that you see a physician first before being referred to physical therapy. In this case, please download our physician referral slip (see bottom of page "Our Goals"), print it, and take it with you to have your doctor sign at your next appointment. **Remember, you have the right to choose where you want to go for physical therapy.**
